As much as I love a hot Summer day, Fall is easily a favorite season to dress for. Sure, my shorts take a backseat in the dresser and my open-toed shoes get a break but I do love slipping on a light jacket, throwing on a sneaker and heading out the door.

Dressing for a Fall day in the Midwest can be a challenge. It’s typically very cold in the mornings and warm by the afternoon. But with a few basics and some fun layering, you can look sharp and be comfortable.

A casual jean paired with a crisp button down is an easy and versatile outfit that can be worn anywhere. A relaxed leg in the pant makes the outfit feel trendy for 2023. A sweater wrapped around the shoulders could also double as another layer if the temps are cool while a hat and sneakers make the outfit feel laid-back and comfortable.

My Favorite Jeans for Fall

I affectionately call this the “90s mom” look. I couldn’t include a fall style guide without a blazer, so here I’ve got a long houndstooth jacket paired with a black turtleneck, high waisted light wash jeans, thick black belt and a black loafer.

A casual jean and sweater is a classic fall look. I take dress it up a bit with a belt, gold earrings, black loafers and a plaid shacket. A shacket is a great piece to include in your fall wardrobe that can be thrown on just about any outfit.

My Favorite Shackets

Contrary to popular opinion, you don’t have to burn your skinny jeans. Instead, try pairing them with a cropped cardigan and long trench for a modern silhouette. Again, loafers make this outfit feel dressy and polished.
